Rams Community Player of the Week: Sam Bradford

Posted Sep 5, 2012

The Rams Community Player of the Week presented by Ameren Missouri is quarterback Sam Bradford.

Entering his third season with the Rams, Bradford has evolved into a franchise cornerstone and one of the leaders of the organization, both on and off the field. This offseason, Bradford continued his commitment to the St. Louis community by participating in a number of events, starting with his visit to Lyon at Blow School to help students celebrate the NFL Network’s “Keep Gym in School” program. After the school received new playground, exercise and sports equipment, Bradford helped the students test it out by leading them through a mini-NFL combine and PLAY 60 activities.

Bradford also made a visit to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis to experience the world class care and resources provided by St. Jude to treat children from throughout the world with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.  Ranked one of the best pediatric cancer hospitals in the country, St. Jude is the first and only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children. Since opening in 1962, St. Jude has treated more than 20,000 children from around the world.  The fundraising arm of St. Jude covers all costs for medical care not covered by insurance and families without insurance are never asked to pay.  While at St. Jude, Sam visited with patients and their families, signed autographs and posed for pictures.

Additionally Bradford became the fourth Rams player to serve as the honorary chair of the St. Louis Komen Race for the Cure, the largest of its kind in the country. Before the race, Bradford met with breast cancer survivors and offered words of encouragement and support to the thousands in attendance. He, along with the Rams rookie class of 2012, then greeted breast cancer survivors with pink roses at the finish line. Sam’s involvement, together with 51,000 race participants, helped Komen St. Louis raise $2.4 million dollars for local breast cancer programs and breast cancer research.

“From his Keep Gym in School appearance to the visit to St. Jude to leading this year’s Komen Race for the Cure, Sam had a tremendous impact on the community this offseason,” said Molly Higgins, vice president of corporate communications/civic affairs, St. Louis Rams.  “He was also a key participant in the Rams’ March of Dimes Challenge and hosted a youth football camp in Oklahoma. For all of these efforts as well as his many behind-the-scenes outreach efforts, we are proud to select him as the week one Community Player of the Week. Sam is a great ambassador for the St. Louis Rams on and off the field and we look forward to working with him to continue to impact the bi-state community and beyond.”
